IECEx Ethanol sensors explosion proof

Description

These IECEx ethanol sensors are supplied with 24VDC to power them up, and have a 4-20mA output signal.  There is an audible alarm and flashing light at 25% of the LFL of ethanol (which is 3.3% ABV).  They can be used in a control system or stand alone.

IECEx Ethanol sensors are very useful in a distillery.  Not only are they used to show whether an area is safe in relation to explosive atmoshpheres, they are also good to show the atmoshpere is suitable for people (the limit for people happens to be 1/10th of the lower explosion limit).  They can also be used to negate the requirement to purge the space before turning on power prior to distilling, when connected to a control system that shuts off the source of emmissions.

This ethanol detector has IECEx marking Ex db IIB T4 Gb which makes it suitable for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 where ethanol is present.  It is a requirement of AS 60079.13 that safety equipment used in an area protected by ventilation (Ex v) that is deemed non-hazardous as a result of the ventialtion, still requires safety equipment to be Ex certified for the zone classification without ventilation (bit of a mouthfull, but important).

Please note that only IECEx certified equipment is allowed in hazardous areas in Australia.  ATEX does not live up the Australian standard, apparently.
